Bernardo Silva scored the winning spot-kick as Portugal beat Slovenia 3-0 in a Euro 2024 last 16 penalty shoot-out after a tense tie finished goalless on Monday.
Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty in the first period of extra-time and was seen to visibly weep as his team-mates consoled him, before Benjamin Sesko missed a great chance to stun Portugal with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Diogo Costa saved Slovenia's first three penalties in the shoot-out with Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Silva converting all of Portugal's efforts.
Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa said after his match-winning performance that confidence helped him through the shoot-out.
"It's motivation. I've always worked hard and I'll continue to do so. I believe in myself and I'd like to thank my family, who support me. It's probably the match in which I've most helped out my team and that's the most important thing"

Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed a penalty in extra-time before scoring Portugal's first in the shoot-out added that it’s normal in football to have the highs and lows.
"First it was sadness and then it was joy, that's what football gives you, inexplicable moments, a bit of everything. I didn't make a single mistake this year and when I needed something the most, (Jan) Oblak saved it."
