Homa Bay County Assembly Speaker Julius Odhiambo Gaya has resigned.
His resignation was announced during the County Assembly proceedings on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Okings Okomo.
"I wish to notify this House House that our Speaker Julius Gaya has tendered his resignation," Okomo announced.
Sources revealed that Gaya was facing a looming impeachment prior to his resignation.
Majority Leader Richard Ogindo said their preliminary findings revealed that 53 out of 54 MCAs were supporting Gaya's ouster from the office.

However, Gaya resigned before an impeachment motion against him was tabled in the county assembly.
Ogindo said Gaya took the best action by resigning from the office to save face from the wrath of the MCAs.
"Only one MCA was supporting Gaya as the speaker. Therefore, he has taken the right action instead of waiting for members to bring those issues for discussion in this assembly,” Ogindo said.
Neither the Majority Leader nor the Deputy Speaker mentioned the reasons for Gaya’s resignation.
