Rono elected new Kenya Universities Sports Federation boss

With a number of pending elections in different sporting federations countrywide, Kibet Rono has been elected the new president of Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) for the next four years.

Rono, who teaches at University of Eldoret, beat four other contestants by harvesting 15 votes from 40 private and public institutions.

A total of 40 delegates took part in the national elections held on Friday in Nakuru.

Rono garnered 15 votes beating Timothy Ramara of Meru University who got 10, Boniface Salano of United States International University (eight votes) and Maurice Onyango of Technical University of Kenya (seven votes).

“We are here for a purpose and it’s to offer good services to our children at the institutions of higher learning when it comes to extracurricular activities,” said Rono at a function supervised by Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials and witnessed by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike from the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Gender.

Francis Karugu of Multimedia University will deputise Rono after collecting 24 against Joseph Sandaki of Kaimosi who got 16 votes.

The Secretary General’s post was scooped by Joan Adalo of Maseno University who got 125 votes ahead of Anthony Mwanzia of Technical University of Mombasa 13, Geoffrey Baraza of Masinde Muliro University of Science Technology (five) and Daniel Njenga of Kenya University (seven).

Hellen Ng’ethe of Jomo Kenyatta University will deputise Adalo after getting 36 against Joseph Ondiko of Machakos University’s four votes.

Hillary Mukasa scooped the Public Relations Officer. Mukasa who teaches at Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) garnered 30 against Ali Baraka of Moi University’s 10 votes.

Treasurer Raphael Githuka of the University of Nairobi and assistant treasurer Macdonald Juma were elected unopposed.
