State assures Kenyans of heightened security

The government has assured Kenyans of adequate security as they flock churches and social places to celebrate Christmas.

Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said security has been heightened across the country and urged Kenyans to remain vigilant.

“The state of security has greatly improved. We want to sustain this by working closely with all the communities, elected leaders, and both faith-based and non-faith-based community leaders,” he said.

He spoke on Tuesday during an assessment of security preparedness at Lungalunga Police Station in Nairobi’s Viwandani Sub-county, where he also held a meeting with the officers.

The PS promised to refurbish the police station, which is in a dilapidated state.

He was accompanied by Nairobi County Police Commander Adamson Bungei among other security officials including National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs).

“It is not possible to ensure safety and security if we do not adopt community policing,” noted Omollo.

Recently, the ministry unveiled its plan to protect Kenyans during the Christmas and New Year festivities, including recalling all police officers on leave and establishing the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC), supported by similar centres in regions and counties.

“Kenyans should expect to see more police presence and visibility, as we have deployed more specialised units alongside general duty police to intensify patrols and heightened surveillance in major towns, places of worship, and critical infrastructure areas,” Omollo said on December 5.
