The Kenya embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been attacked amid a recent wave of protests in Kinshasa.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei condemned the attacks, describing them as a serious breach of international law.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 28, Sing’Oei noted that the embassies of Uganda and South Africa were also targeted.

“We are deeply concerned by the ongoing siege and attacks on embassy premises and personnel in Kinshasa, DRC, by marauding protesters voicing their discontent over the conflict in the eastern part of the country,” said the PS.

He urged DRC authorities to take action to restore order and ensure the safety of diplomatic missions in Kinshasa.

“We will use all diplomatic means at our disposal to work with the region in the search for peace,” added Sing’Oei, urging Kenyans in the conflict-stricken country to exercise caution.
The attack comes on the back of President William Ruto's call for
immediate cessation  of hostilities in eastern DRC yesterday, on his capacity as Chair of the East African Community (EAC).

Earlier today, the United Nations reported that food assistance in and around Goma, had been "paused," warning of potential food shortages in the besieged area.

“Food assistance activities in and around Goma have been temporarily paused. WFP is concerned about food scarcity in Goma,” said Shelley Thakral, a spokeswoman for the World Food Programme in DRC.
