Nine people died and two others were injured following a road accident involving a matatu in the Ratili area along the Narok-Bomet highway.

Narok County Traffic Commander Kipchumba Kiprotich confirmed the incident, stating that eight people died on the spot while one was pronounced dead on arrival at Longisa County Hospital.

Kiprotich reported that the accident, which occurred around 7 pm, involved a matatu belonging to Narok Safaris Sacco with the driver among those who died.

According to the police, the matatu was travelling from Narok towards Bomet when it suffered a rear right tyre burst.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times.

"Eight adults, six males, and two females died on the spot. A juvenile female of unknown age and two unidentified adult males were rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital. The juvenile was pronounced dead on arrival," the police reported.

The bodies of those who died were taken to Longisa County Hospital morgue for preservation, awaiting identification and autopsy.

The wreckage of the matatu was towed to Ololulunga Police Station for inspection.
