The Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media purporting to announce the nomination of several prominent individuals to unspecified government positions.

This comes when speculation is rife of a pending government reshuffle with new faces expected to join in the Broad-Based Government.

Njoroge has cautioned the public against falling for misinformation.

“We wish to categorically state that the said letter is fraudulent, misleading, and does not originate from the National Assembly or any of its authorized offices,” Njoroge said.

“No such nominations have been made, and the document should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”

A letter dated March 10, 2025, which has been widely shared online, lists individuals, including former Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i (Interior) and Peter Munya (Agriculture),

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Ambassador Dr. Koki Muli, lawyer Prof. Makau Mutua, and Muhoho Kenyatta, brother to former president Uhuru Kenyatta, as nominees for unspecified positions.

The letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission requested forthe  vetting of the nominees for the cabinet positions.

“We kindly request your office to conduct a thorough review of the nominees and provide a comprehensive vetting report,” the letter reads in part.

“This should include any pending or past investigation, corruption-related concerns, ethical breaches, or any other relevant integrity matters that may affect their suitability for public office.”

It further stated that the successful nominees list be ready in eight days to allow parliamentary vetting.

However, the National Assembly has disowned the document, warning citizens to rely only on verified sources for official information.

“The public is advised to rely only on official communication from the National Assembly, which is disseminated through its official channels, including its website and verified social media pages,” Njoroge stated.

He also urged Kenyans to exercise caution and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary confusion.“Spreading false information only fuels speculation and mistrust,” he added. “We urge citizens to remain vigilant and verify any claims through legitimate sources.”

The office of the Clerk reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the integrity of parliamentary processes, encouraging those with inquiries to seek clarification through official communication channels.

“Any inquiries regarding official parliamentary matters should be directed to the Clerk’s office through the appropriate platforms,” Njoroge said.
