Why inland ports cannot be wished away

President William Ruto ordered all port operations that had transferred to Nairobi and Naivasha Inland Container Depots (ICDs) to Mombasa, reversing one of the most controversial policies of the Jubilee administration. Immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration forced traders to use the standard gauge railway (SGR) for guaranteed business in order to repay the Ksh450 billion ($3.7 billion) debt taken to build it.
