Kenya faces a pressing need to improve oral health and dental care to reduce the growing number of citizens grappling with preventable diseases such as cavities.
Left untreated, these conditions can escalate into severe health complications like heart disease and diabetes.
During the World Oral Health Day, Colgate Kenya reiterated its commitment to advancing oral health awareness and care in the country.
The oral health products manufacturer has called for collective action to ensure every individual has the knowledge and resources needed to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
“Oral health goes beyond having a bright smile—it’s a crucial part of overall well-being,” the company said.
Colgate Kenya emphasized its efforts to promote oral health awareness by collaborating with the government and other key stakeholders on various initiatives.
One of the firm's flagship programs, Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF), has made a remarkable impact by reaching over 12.7 million people in Kenya since its inception.
Through this initiative, children are educated on proper brushing techniques, the importance of a healthy diet, and maintaining good hygiene habits.
Additionally, Colgate, in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Education, has launched two groundbreaking initiatives. An in-school brushing programme now encourages children to brush their teeth after meals, building strong oral hygiene habits from a young age.
Since 2019, the company has also worked closely with the Ministry of Health to provide oral health education to women’s groups across Kenya, sharing invaluable information on disease prevention and promoting healthier lifestyles. These efforts have reached thousands of households nationwide.
Clean water provision has also been identified as a critical component of promoting oral health.
In collaboration with Wellboring, Colgate Kenya has drilled 164 water wells in schools across the country, benefitting over 138,000 children and 152,000 adults with access to clean, safe water.
Through these impactful initiatives, Colgate Kenya continues to plant firm roots in its mission to enhance oral health awareness and improve the well-being of communities across Kenya.
