Severe heat wave likely to continue over parts of India

The Indian Meteorological Department on ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/asia/article/2001475635/death-toll-rises-as-heat-wave-grips-northern-india">Tuesday warned of continued< heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in East India and parts of South Peninsular India for the next five days.

In a public health advisory, India's National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health emphasized the risks of physical exertion, direct sun exposure, ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/sports/article/2000163782/temperatures-in-india-soar-above-47-celsius-1-371-people-killed">and overcrowding during< extreme heat, highlighting the importance of access to shade and water to mitigate heat-related illnesses.

Last week, India's eastern state of Odisha reported a sunstroke-related death and 71 heat-related illness cases.
