Light Group of Schools (LGS) has appointed Kenyan basketball player James Mwangi to champion sports mentorship at the school.

The school, through its head of sports, Faraj Rajab, said that Mwangi, who is a national team player and entrepreneur, will use his prowess in the game and experience to motivate the upcoming players.

"Mwangi is partnering with us to elevate the standard of sports here through our mentorship programme known as Life Goals through Sports (LGS)," said Rajab.

He added that LGS is an initiative that uses sport as a powerful tool to nurture discipline, leadership, and holistic growth in students.

Rajab went on to say that LGS is more than a sports programme, as it’s a platform that’s used to shape character, discipline, and leadership in young people.

"Mwangi's journey inspires and affirms the mission of LGS, to develop not just academic achievers, but well-rounded, resilient leaders of tomorrow," disclosed Rajab.

He added that the partnership will have a huge and positive impact on the learners through lessons that success is possible in many forms, from academics to sports.

Mwangi on his part, said that he will use his wide experience in the game of basketball in Africa to engage learners in interactive storytelling sessions, motivational discussions, and a recorded TV feature aimed at inspiring youth beyond the court.

"My presence here symbolises LGS’ enduring belief that sports are not merely extracurricular activities but integral to a child's personal and social growth. Our goal is to use sports as a tool to instill values that help children thrive in every area of life," he said.
