Murang’a county has waived the medical bills of the victims of Saba Saba day demonstrations in various hospitals.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata sympathised with the families of the victims at Kenyatta National, Murang’a, Kangari, Githumu, and Aberdare hospitals, as he mourned the four who were shot dead following Monday's demonstrations.

Speaking after visiting Kelvin Mwaniki at Murang’a ICU, he also faulted the destruction of property, including the County supermarket at Kabati.

He comforted relatives of Mwaniki, directing waiver of the hospital and mortuary bills to victims in Murang’a public health facilities.

“Murang’a registered a trail of destruction following the demonstrations, which could have been avoided if the concerns of the youth were listened to,” said Kang’ata, who was accompanied by Health Chief Officer Eliud Maina.

Henry Mbote, brother to Mwaniki, told Kang’ata that his 22-year-old brother was among the boda boda riders who demanded the arrest of criminals behind the spate of theft of motorcycles in Kangari municipality.
