Sh5M water project transforms lives in Kilifi's Garashi ward

More than 10,000 residents of Garashi ward, Magarini Sub County in Kilifi County, have benefited from a Sh5 million water borehole and pipeline project.

The five-kilometre water project cuts across Bate, Mugumoni and Dhololo villages with a solar-powered borehole with a pumping station producing 60 cubic metres of water daily.

Located at Bate village, the project was funded by Bupa Global, implemented by Griot Consulting and supervised by the Kilifi County government.

Now, we have access to fresh, clean water, and we are truly grateful,” said Mrs Hariri Kachocho from Mugumoni village.

Her sentiments were echoed by Mrs Constance Nyamvula from Bate village, who said that cases of cholera in the area will be a thing of the past.

“Many organisations have tried to solve our water problem but failed. Griot and Bupa have succeeded, and we are thankful. Our children will now be clean and safe,” she said.

Hywel George, a director with Griot Consulting, expressed gratitude to their partner, Bupa Global, for supporting the initiative.

“This is a significant achievement as we continue our commitment to improving access to clean water. This project is part of our ‘Maji Bora’ programme, which has delivered water to nearly half a million people in Kilifi and Turkana counties over the past year,” he said.

Uditha Jayarinte, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bupa Global, emphasised the organisation’s dedication to improving healthcare and community well-being.
