Leaders Kenya Police and Tusker have handed defending champions Gor Mahia the advantage in the race to win the 2024-2025 FKF Premier League title after both teams dropped points on Wednesday in matches played across the country.

Police went down 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Sports Complex while FC Talanta stunned title hopeful Tusker 2-0 at Dandora Stadium, two defeats that have handed the baton to Gor Mahia who will play bottom-placed Nairobi City Stars today at Dandora.

Gor who have a game in hand have 53 points, and they will go top if they beat City Stars today and AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby that was postponed last week.

Moses Shumah made Police visit in Kakamega tough from the start after netting in the eighth minute to give Homeboyz an early lead.

Rising Harambee Stars forward Mohammed Bajaber responded for the visitors in the 14th minute to tie the scores at 1-1, the only goals to be scored in the opening half.

Glen Otunga Masava would pick up where Shumah left two minutes into the final half, scoring the winner to send Homeboyz fifth in the standings with 51 points.

In Nairobi, Emmanuel Osoro scored a brace to not only lead the Golden Boot race with 16 goals alongside Shumah but also lift Talanta out of the relegation zone after a shocking 2-0 win over Tusker.

Osoro converted a 10th minute penalty to give Talanta an early lead after the referee penalised George Kaddu for handling in the box.

In the final half, Osoro bagged his brace deep into stoppage time to seal maximum points for Talanta who now sit 12 with 35 points, three points ahead of Mara Sugar who are 15th and in the relegation and promotion playoff spot.

Mara Sugar played out a 0-0 draw against Bandari while Ulinzi Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Posta Rangers.

In Kisii, Shabana continued to fly in front of their fans after edging out Bidco United 2-1 at the fully packed Gusii Stadium.
