Gor Mahia’s early title celebrations were put on hold after KCB forced a 0-0 draw against the league leaders in a midweek FKF Premier League match at the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a on Thursday.
The record Kenyan champions needed a win to stay within the grasp of a record extending 21st Premier League title, a feat they can now achieve on Sunday when they clash with Muhoroni Youth.
The barren draw leaves Gor still top of the 18-team league with 64 points, ten points ahead of second-placed Kenya Police.
A win would have put K’Ogalo 12 points clear and a point against relegation struggling Muhoroni Youth would have confirmed the title but they now must win if they want to seal the Premier League with three matches to spare.
AFC Leopards had given their archrivals an advantage on Wednesday when they stopped K’Ogalo’s closest challengers Police by beating them 1-0 but it appears the law enforcers are back into the race again.

With Police praying for a miracle to win their first ever title, Gor on the other hand only need to win to be sure of retaining the title and play in the 2024-2025 CAF Champions League.
Gor missed out on the Champions League football this season after they were suspended by the continental body for failing to pay their former players in time. Consequently, Kenya didn’t have a participant in the continental showpiece.
While all eyes will be on whether Gor will win the title, focus will be on the bottom of the table this weekend where the battle to avoid relegation continues with Nzoia Sugar, Shabana, Muhoroni Youth, Sofapaka and FC Talanta all fighting to survive the drop.
