Victor Wanyama announces retirement from football

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has announced his retirement from professional football.

The 34-year-old midfielder has had a stellar career, spanning four coutries, six different clubs, including Beerschot AC (Belgium), Celtic (Scotland), Southampton (England), Tottenham Hotspur (England), and CF Montréal (Canada). He also had a brief stint with Dunfermline Athletic (Scotland).

Wanyama made 64 interational appearances, scoring six goals.

He boasts having won a UEFA Champions League runners up medal with Spurs in 2016, losing to Liverpool in the final.

He made the announcement on social media, while also revealing he planned to step into the coaching sphere, and is set to complete his UEFA A License this year.

“Today I announce my retirement from football. A boy from Muthurwa, carrying a nation’s pride everytime I stepped onto the pitch“ he posted.
