The Indian High Commission in Nairobi on Sunday hosted a grand celebration to mark India’s 76th Republic Day, commemorating the adoption of its Constitution in 1950. The event highlighted India’s democratic values, growing global influence, and enduring relationship with Kenya.

The Indian High Commissioner read a speech by Indian President Droupadi Murmu, which underscored India’s achievements and its vision for the future. Mr. Modi praised the country’s sustained economic growth, technological advancements, and its expanding role in international relations.

“India’s economy continues to grow at a remarkable pace, creating opportunities for millions of young people,” Mr. Modi’s message noted. He also highlighted India’s recent space exploration milestones, including advancements in satellite technology and space docking, which solidify its position as a global leader in science and innovation.

Kenya and India share a historical relationship dating back to the pre-independence era, with strong ties in trade, education, and health. Speaking at the event, the Indian High Commissioner emphasized the significance of these ties, describing Kenya as a key partner in India’s outreach to Africa.

Attendees expressed pride in the event. “This celebration reminds us of our shared history and the opportunities we have to strengthen our relationship,” said Neha Patel, a business owner in Nairobi.

India’s Republic Day celebrations abroad reflect the country’s efforts to bolster its global image. As India takes a more prominent role on the global stage, its engagement with Kenya is expected to deepen, focusing on trade, technology, and cultural exchange.
