Former Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip has been charged with receiving Sh6 million by false pretences.

Loitiptip appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and denied the charges on Thursday.

In the first count, the former senator was charged that on August 3, 2022, at an unknown place within the country, without lawful authority or excuse, he made a motor vehicle registration certificate purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The second count stated that on the same day in Kileleshwa estate, Nairobi, he knowingly and fraudulently uttered to Samson Malonza a forged motor vehicle registration certificate purporting it to be a genuine document for motor vehicle registration number KDA 005C.

In the third count, Loitiptip was accused of obtaining Sh6 million after falsely pretending that you were in a position to sell to him a Toyota Land Cruiser V8.

The former senator, who represented himself, pleaded with the court for a lenient bond term claiming that he was in a financial crisis after losing his seat in last year's elections.

"Your honour, I bought the vehicle at Sh12 million from the complainant who is a friend, but I sold it at Sh6 million to finance my campaigns. I come from Lamu, I have a young family and I intend to solve the matter out of court with the complainant," he said.

He also said that he had a medical problem that needed regular attention.

He was released on a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh700 000. The case will be mentioned on November 13.
