Fire kills child and injures police officer in Kayole police station

A six-year-old girl died and her mother, a police officer, was severely injured in a fire that broke out in their home in Kayole on Monday evening.
The fire started around 7 p.m. in the first floor of block one in the police lines, where PC (W) Yuniah Kemunto lived with her husband and five children. Kemunto's husband, PC Dishon Moenga, was on duty at the time of the incident.
According to witnesses, Kemunto and her four children managed to escape the flames, but her twin daughter, Angela Moenga, was trapped inside the burning house. She was later found dead by the firefighters.
Kemunto and her other twin daughter, Angel Moenga, suffered burns on their bodies and were taken to Modern Komarock Hospital, where they received first aid. They were then referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment. Kemunto sustained 24% burns and Angel sustained 60% burns, according to medical reports.

The fire was contained by officers from Kayole Police Station with the assistance of Nairobi County Fire Brigade. The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Scenes of crime personnel documented the scene and moved the body of Angela Moenga to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital morgue, where it awaits autopsy.
Property of unknown value was destroyed in the fire.
The case is under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kayole. A progress report is expected to follow-up
