Court convicts Waititu, wife on Sh588m graft charges

Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki has convicted former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari on graft charges related to a ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/national/article/2001500416/waititus-official-says-change-of-rules-determined-sh588m-tender">Sh588 million scandal<. Waititu and his wife have been found guilty of conflict of interest and dealing with suspect property.

Also found guilty are businessman Charles Chege and his wife Beth Wangechi together with former Kiambu County Government Roads chief Officer Eng.Luka Mwangi.

The magistrate says they are convicted as charged.

He says the ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/national/article/2001506086/dpp-wants-waititu-wife-jailed-over-sh588m-fraud">prosecution proved its case<.

While convicting the former governor, the magistrate noted that Waititu failed to honor the oath of office and to safeguard public funds.

The magistrate noted that the award of the multi-million shillings contract for road construction to Testimony Enterprises Limited was fraudulent, null and void

The magistrate has however acquitted them from money laundering charges.

Waititu, his wife, and their co-accused have been remanded awaiting sentencing.
