Kindiki: Govt to step up support for Harambee Stars after CHAN performance

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded Harambee Stars for reaching the quarterfinals of the ongoing CHAN tournament, promising full support for the upcoming games.
Speaking at Tarbaj Teachers Training College during the Tarbaj Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme in Wajir County, Kindiki said the team made the country proud despite losing to Madagascar at the quarterfinals on penalties.
“We are proud of what Harambee Stars have done for our country, we will be going forward to motivate our players and the technical bench. We will improve their welfare and motivate them as they prepare for AFCON 2027 and the coming World Cup qualifiers,” he said.
The Harambee Stars were knocked out of the continental tournament on Friday night after losing 4-3 on post-match penalties to Madagascar in the quarterfinals played at Kasarani Stadium.
The DP noted that the government is committed to upgrading stadiums and sports fields across the country to nurture talent.
“We are committed to building stadiums and improving all the sports fields, including soccer, volleyball, handball, netball, rugby and all sports so that our youths can utilise their talents and earn their living through sports,” he noted.
At the same time, Kindiki reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza administration will develop all regions without discrimination.
He highlighted the ongoing road projects meant to open up the North Eastern region, including the Mandera–Isiolo highway and the Lapsset corridor linking Lamu, Garissa, Marsabit, Samburu, and Turkana.
On energy, he announced that over 18,500 families in Wajir are being connected to electricity at Sh3 billion, while hybrid power projects worth Sh500 billion are underway in Merti, Habaswein, Eldas, and Elwak.
Other projects undertaken by the government include modern markets, affordable houses, fresh produce centres, and hostels for local training institutions.
