The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) trophy made a star appearance at Standard Group headquarters today, ahead of Saturday’s grand finale at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Escorted by Kenyan football legend and tournament ambassador Victor Wanyama, the silverware rolled up to the Mombasa Road offices and was received by Group CEO Chaacha Mwita.

Mwita termed the visit a perfect match for the media house, adding that Standard is the home of sports, with rights to bring Kenyans the English Premier League action through its radio platforms.

For Wanyama, the former Harambee Stars captain, it was a proud moment, saying “It’s an honor for Kenya to host such a big tournament on Africa’s sporting calendar.”

Wanyama also lauded the Harambee stars team for the good performance saying the football field in Africa is coming of age.

“We have improved the boys have done I’d also like to thank the fans for pushing the boys and the President for the support you know football needs moral support,” said Wanyama

The trophy, which arrived in Nairobi on Monday under tight security, will be lifted by Africa’s new champions on Saturday evening.

Defending champions Senegal, two-time winners Morocco, Sudan, and Madagascar are all chasing glory.

The Kasarani final will cap weeks of high-octane football across host cities Dar es Salaam, Kampala, and Nairobi.

And for Kenya, the excitement doesn’t stop there, the country is already gearing up to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
