The Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) has petitioned the Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga to push for the arrest of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya.

The ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/testbed/article/2001486333/lsk-wants-peter-salasya-arrested-for-threatening-magistrate">association< wants the MP arrested after he allegedly threatened Kakamega Small Claims Court Magistrate Glady Kiama, but the legislator has since denied issuing the threats.

KMJA through its President Derrick Kuto said that police in Kakamega have not been able to arrest the MP despite Kiama making a report at the Kakamega police station.

Kuto who was addressing the press together with the Association’s lawyer Danstan Omari said that the office of the DPP has not acted on the threats issued by ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001486347/salasya-denies-threatening-magistrate-says-case-is-political-witch-hunt">Salasya.<

He called on the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to have his officers arrest the MP.

Kiama claimed that Salasya confronted and threatened her after she issued ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/business/amp/western/article/2001486334/jsc-condemns-salasya-for-magistrate-over-sh500000-ruling">a judgment< requiring him to pay a Sh500,000 debt that he owed a Kakamega businessman Robert Lutta.

According to Omari, if the MP was aggrieved by the decision of the Magistrate, he should have appealed the matter at the High Court.

He said that the association takes the threat very seriously maintaining that Salasya was not above the law and he should be immediately arrested and charged.

"We also call upon the EACC to invoke chapter six on the integrity of a public officer and have the MP resign or be removed from Parliament," said Omari.
