Kenya and India sign MoUs on five areas to strengthen bilateral ties

Kenya and India have signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) that aim at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

President William Ruto and India’s Droupadi Murmu echoed that the MoUs seek to enhance cooperation for the benefit of both the people of Kenya and India.

Among the areas Kenya is seeking to cooperate with India is ICT which it hopes to benefit from India’s capacity in technology.

“Kenya and India will expand partnership in technology along other sectors. We will benefit tremendously from India’s capacity and experience as a global leader in technology,” said Ruto.

The two Heads of State also agreed to diversify Kenya’s ICT programmes and enhance its technological infrastructure by creating a partnership between the Open University of Kenya and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Other areas Kenya and India signed MoUs   include trade, investment, education, digital economy, healthcare, research and agriculture among others.

According to the president, India’s investment in the country will boost Kenya’s socio-economic growth.

Ruto, who is on a two-day State visit to India also met with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Executive Officer of Procorp Enertech Private Limited, Srinivasa Raju Gannavarapu, who has shown interest in investing in the Lake Region Economic Bloc through building of roads.
