The National El Niño Emergency and Disaster Response say they have not recorded any recent flood-related fatalities.

In a December 14 statement, the team reported positive developments amidst the ongoing rains in the country.

"In a reassuring development, there have been no recent fatalities associated with the ongoing El Niño. The coordinated efforts of emergency response teams and the collaboration of the public have played a pivotal role in preventing further tragic outcomes," reads the statement in part.

The team has observed that water levels in parts of Lamu, Tana River, and Garissa counties have lessened.

They say that they are monitoring the situation in Taita Taveta, Narok, Migori, Homabay, and Siaya counties closely due to the current forecast of heavy rainfall and isolated storms in said regions.

The team says the government will continue to provide relief and support to those affected by the floods.

“Despite this positive progress, all affected counties will continue to receive crucial relief supplies, providing vital support to communities grappling with the aftermath of the floods. Active plans are likewise, underway for the second phase of relief distribution to the affected Counties in acknowledgment of the evolving situation," reads the statement.

They said that they will continue to coordinate with government agencies and humanitarian organizations to provide essential assistance including, food, temporary shelter provision, medical care, water and sanitation support as well as restoration of damaged infrastructure.
