The IGAD meeting is in line with Kenya's commitment to stability and progress in the Eastern African region, while the summit aims to discuss issues of multilateralism, international peace, and Covid-19 recovery strategies.

"President Ruto will contribute to discussions on key priorities such as reforms of the United Nations, peace and security, Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, and the reform of the international financial system,” said Mohamed.

At the same time, the president will hold bilateral meetings with various Heads of State in a bid to strengthen Kenya’s relations with her neighbours.

It was not immediately clear how long Ruto will be away.
