Mudavadi warns against duplication of roles

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for effective coordination among national government ministries, departments and agencies in the regions.

He said this would cure duplication of roles, ensure effective service delivery to citizens and conserve limited resources.

"You can recall how regional commissioners did well in ensuring registration of farmers to get subsidised fertiliser, which saved the government millions of shillings. The drive to achieve 15 billion trees by 2032 project which is going well is another good example of proper coordination," said Mudavadi.

He added: "There are areas we can broaden as a team to deliver better for the people of Kenya and it is important that we work as one," he added while meeting regional commissioners during the inaugural National Government Coordination Secretariat (NGCS) in his office in Nairobi.

Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo said that the purpose of communicating national government's programmes and projects on the ground has remained with the Head of State, which should not be the case.

"You are our eyes on the ground and you should engage the public and communicate government's programmes and projects unlike now, where information is now only at the top, thus affecting projects ownership by the public," Omollo said.

He challenged them to be up to date with information on wnat various ministries in their regions are doing.
