Controversial Preacher Paul Mackenzi and his 94 other co-accused persons have been denied bond in the manslaughter case by a Mombasa Court.

While delivering the ruling, Mombasa Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku noted that the office of the DPP proved that there would be interference with the witness since most of the witnesses are children and his followers.

The Magistrate noted that the gravity of the 238 charges is that the possible outcome is a life sentence if they are found guilty, saying that they may indeed fail to appear in court for proceedings if they are granted bond.

The court also stated that there was no proof of the accused persons' permanent residence since they were all arrested at Shakahola thus it will be difficult for them to be traced if they don't appear in court.

The matter will be mentioned on April 25, 2024, for pretrial.
