National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the temporary suspension of flights to Dubai due to severe weather conditions and flooding in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
KQ said it had canceled its Wednesday, April 17 flight, and one of its flights into and out of Dubai on Tuesday, April 16.
"Due to severe weather and ongoing flooding in the United Arab Emirates, which has led to operational challenges, KQ canceled one flight into and out of Dubai yesterday, Tuesday, April 16. We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience resulting from this situation," the airline said in a statement.
The National carrier has however assured its passengers that it is closely monitoring the situation and is in communication with Dubai authorities to minimize disruptions to travel plans to its clients.
Yesterday, a video made rounds on social media platforms, highlighting how bad the flood situation at the Dubai International Airport was.
At the airport, pools of water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. The airport halted arrivals on Tuesday night and passengers struggled to reach terminals through the floodwater covering surrounding roads.
Heavy rains began in the city on Monday, causing flooding on major highways. Authorities reported an unusual record of rains and heavy thunderstorms.
