4 police officers killed, 5 missing in suspected Al-Shabaab attack in Mandera

Four police officers under the Special Operations Group (SOG) have been killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab attack at the border of Banisa and Mandera West sub-counties in Mandera County.
According to a police report seen by The Standard, six other officers were injured in the attack that ensued in Har Sigenge area on the evening of July 11, 2024
The report said five other SOG officers are missing and a search by their counterparts is underway in the area.
".....An exchange ensued where 4 SOG officers confirmed dead, 3 SOG and 3 NPR officers got injured while 5 SOG officers are missing," the report read in part.
It added, "Combined SOG officers from Guba, Ashabito and Takaba are on the ground to search for the missing officers."

The six injured officers were attended to at Banisa Hospital and are awaiting an airlift to Nairobi for further treatment.
