Police in Migori are holding their colleague for allegedly attacking a 31-year-old man with a machete at Kaler ward, Nyatike Sub-County in Migori County following a disagreement.

Nyatike Sub-County Police Commander Dorothy Migarusha who confirmed the arrest said they arrested the police officer who is based at Ochuna Police Station over assault.

"We received a report yesterday from Kaler Police post that one of our officers had assaulted a civilian. We have the officer in custody," Ms Migarusha said.

She said they had recorded a statement from the victim who was admitted at Migori County Referral Hospital.

The Nyatike police boss said they were in the process of constructing the case and would take action against the officer based on the evidence gathered.

Makiasi area Assistant Chief Vincent Otieno said the two have been having differences whose cause was not known.

According to Otieno, the officer had a confrontation with the victim before removing a machete and cutting him on the left hand.

"He got severe injuries," Otieno said.
