Several MPs in Bungoma County have endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to run for the presidency, citing his leadership within the ODM party and his rising popularity across the country.
Speaking at the funeral of the senator’s elder brother, Matthias Kiniale Sifuna, at KMTC in Bungoma, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga and his Bumula counterpart Jack Wamboka urged the Luhya community to rally behind their own for the top seat in the 2027 General Election.
“If you are a leader from Western region and you are not supporting Sifuna, you will be voted out. I call on our friend Fred Matiang’i to unite and rally behind Sifuna to enhance the opposition chances of clinching the presidency,” Wamboka said.

The lawmaker dismissed those calling on the Luhya nation to back President William Ruto’s reelection bid.
“Those saying we should wait until 2032 should not be in any hurry. Let them even wait until 2052, but Western has a presidential candidate to face off with President Ruto in 2027,” he said.
Wamboka insisted that the region should back Sifuna and disregard the position taken by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula. The pair have been categorical that they support Ruto’s second term bid.
Majimbo demanded that Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen explains to Kenyans why Sifuna’s rallies are being targeted by the police and hired goons.
Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi asked Sifuna to continue being courageous as he fights for Kenyans. “You need courage, remain strong, you have also defended us on matters pertaining Bungoma County, and it’s like you have been our senator.”
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa said what Sifuna intends to achieve was God’s purpose.
