One person was killed and three others injured following a confrontation between Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers and locals at the Chepalungu trading center, Narok.
In a statement on December 12, KFS confirmed that the incident that took place on December 16 in the Narok South sub-county ensued after two forest rangers had impounded livestock illegally grazing in the forest.
“The said Rangers found six goats and six sheep grazing illegally within a newly planted forest without the owner, the rangers impounded the livestock.
While escorting the livestock to the camp for further necessary action, the duo encountered a hostile crowd at Chepalungu trading center. The rowdy mob consisted of more than 100 members of the public who blocked the road demanding for release of the livestock,” stated KFS.
The hostile crowd advanced towards the rangers clobbering them with crude weapons as they demanded the release of their livestock.
