Police in Eldoret have seized 560 bags of DAP fertiliser that was being offloaded at a trading center in Uasin Gishu County.

The consignment was being offloaded at Lemok trading Centre, about 10 kilometers from Langas Police Station.

The fertiliser packaged in 50kg bags was taken to Langas Police Station pending further investigation.

Kapseret Sub County Police Commander Sarah Chumo said the fertiliser was ferried from Mombasa to Lemok in Kapseret area where it was seized.

“Acting on a tip from the public, we rushed to the area and found locals offloading the="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001492040/fertiliser-scandal-probe-to-unearth-truth-says-cs"> DAP fertiliser

“When the owner, identified as Kemboi saw the police, he left, however, we managed to hold the driver who is assisting us with information about the inputs," she added.

Police said the driver will reveal how the fertiliser made its way to the area without proper delivery documentations.

Chumo said the consignment is alleged to have come from Green Park National Cereals and Produce Board in Mombasa and was destined for One Acre Farm in Eldoret.

The OCPD noted that the 28 tonnes of fertiliser had already been offloaded into two rooms.

“The manner in which offloading was done could easily indicate something fishy, the government is keen in making sure that farmers get proper and adequate farm commodities during this planting season,” she said.

The police boss said she reached to Bosco Mwiga who admitted that the fertiliser consignment belonged to him and he had authorised it to be transported to Eldoret.

“We contacted the alleged owner of the consignment and he promised to come and we are waiting for him before we take any action,” she said.
