Governor Bii condemns rising crime rates in Eldoret

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has condemned the rising cases of crime in Eldoret and its environs.
Bii said his administration was working closely with security agencies to reduce the cases.
His remarks follow a recent surge in motorcycle thefts in the city
On Friday evening, the governor monitored the successful recovery of over 200 stolen motorcycles and spare parts, a significant breakthrough in the fight against organised crime syndicates targeting motorcyclists and motor vehicles.

“It is unfortunate to see young people losing their properties to thugs yet some of them got the motorcycles through loans. I have realised that these syndicates have been a growing concern for our residents, and today’s success highlights our ongoing commitment to tackling this issue head-on, using multiple agencies,” the governor said.
He added: “I want to commit myself that I will be responding to your calls promptly in case there is an urgent issue, I commend our security teams for their swift and decisive action in apprehending the 16 suspects involved in these thefts. Their dedication is key to restoring safety in our community, keep it up because what you have done has indicated your commitment to dealing with criminals.”
The governor addressed the broader impact of motorcycle thefts, urging residents to avoid buying used motorcycle parts, which he noted as a major factor fueling the criminal activity.
Uasun Gishu Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi also thanked the governor for the encouragement, saying his humbly intervention will encourage his officers.
“I also want to assure you that we are actively pursuing all leads to bring these criminals to justice, and we will not relent in our efforts because your coming here has motivated us,” said Mwanthi who was accompanied by CID boss Daniel Muleli and other senior officers
He said Eldoret is taking bold steps to safeguard its residents and businesses, with plans to enhance security measures as it prepares for a 24-hour economy.
Mwanthis also reiterated his commitment to ensuring a safe environment, paving the way for economic growth and a prosperous future for all citizens.
