Kabras Sugar RFC head coach Carlos Kyatwa has been named the SJAK/Betika Coach of the Month for April, celebrating his exceptional leadership during a historic period for the Kakamega-based rugby team.

Emerging victorious among four nominees, Kyatwa receives a KSH 100,000 cash prize along with a custom trophy.

The South African tactician spearheaded Kabras Sugar RFC’s remarkable April, guiding the team to a rare double triumph. They successfully defended both the Kenya Cup and the Enterprise Cup titles, showcasing resilience and tactical mastery. The team narrowly edged Menengai Oilers 27-26 in a thrilling Kenya Cup final on April 12, before dominating with a 32-12 win in the Enterprise Cup final two weeks later on April 26.

Runner-up in the voting was Kakamega Homeboyz FC’s head coach Francis Baraza, who led his team to important league victories over AFC Leopards and Bandari, and secured progression in the FKF Cup after beating Shabana FC. His only blemish for the month was a goalless draw against Sofapaka.

Tied for third were Kenya Women’s Sevens coach Dennis Mwanja and Shabana FC’s Peter Okidi. Mwanja made history by guiding the Lionesses to their first-ever overall title in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, earning 56 points and a spot in the promotion playoffs in Los Angeles, USA. Meanwhile, Okidi’s Shabana FC had a strong league showing with wins over Bandari, FC Talanta, and Nairobi City Stars, even though their FKF Cup run ended with a defeat to Kabras Sugar.

We are happy to be rewarding the most outstanding coach for the month once again, thanks to our partners Betika, who have made it possible. They demonstrated their support for sports in the country, both on and off the pitch. We share an ambition of creating opportunities at all levels and ensuring everyone is welcome to enjoy the game. Congratulations to Coach Kyatwa for winning in April," said SJAK President James Waindi.
