Otters, Hydra Aquatics clubs win NCSA gala

Otters Swim Club and Hydra Aquatics Club won the Nairobi County Swimming Association (NCSA) Sprints and Relays Swimming Championship at Kiota School, over the weekend.

Otters dominated the men’s category bagging 25 medals (eight gold, 11 silver and six bronze) to carry the day, while Hydra garnered eight gold, six silver and five bronze to top the women’s medal standings.

In the men’s contest, German School Nairobi won seven gold, eight silver and two bronze to finish second with Frontal Wave Swim Club finishing third with six gold, two silver and five bronze.

Seahorse Aquatic Centre and United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Dolphins Swim Club won 10 and six medals to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Braeburn Swimming Club, which has been dominant this season, settled for second best in the women’s challenge with six gold and three bronze medals.

Makini School grabbed five gold, seven silver and two bronze medals to complete the top three whereas Otters (five gold, three silver and three bronze) and Frontal (four gold, three silver and four bronze) were fourth and fifth.

In the girls’ eight to nine years 100m individual medley, Athena Diamantidis of Braeburn touched the wall in a time of 1:37.53 ahead of Joy Mackola of Makini School who finished second 1:45.47, while German School’s Ada Berretta was third in 1:58.84.

Marx Mugo of Seahorses dominated the boys’ 100m individual medley eight to nine years race, winning it in 1:34.06, with his closest challenger Karl Grotmann of German School coming in 2.24 seconds later. Championship. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
