First Capital were on the verge of winning the Horseman’s Cup after overcoming Kenya Nut Black 3.5-3 in a close encounter at Nairobi Polo Club on Saturday.

Joss Craig was on target again with a double for First Capital for the two teams to stand at a two-all-draw deadlock at the end of the second chukka, Will Millar having also returned a double for the losers.

It was a mouthwatering match at the end of the day.

Having started the match with the advantage of half a fraction of a goal from their low handicap, Vishal Somaia put through the winner in the third chukka for First Capital to win by that half fraction of a goal after diminutive Mbu Ngugi had made it 3-3 for Kenya Nut Black.

Ngugi could be headed to the national team if his recent exploits in recent matches are anything to go by.

The two teams had won their opening matches on Friday to make their subsequent matches explosive.

In the Lord Cranworth Cup, which is the second division event of the championships, Social House secured an 8.5-7 win over Pure Travel in a two-team round robin competition.

Eva Kamau scored a double for Social House in the first and fourth chukkas to open doors for teammates Archie Stichbury and Sharon Alela to add two more goals yesterday for their team.

On form, Alice Owambo replied with a double for Pure Travel after Jamie Stichbury had first put through the ball to open the scores in the first chukka.

Social House had won the first round robin match 4.5-4, and the two teams are meeting in the finals this morning to determine the winner.
