Maternal healthcare in Busia County has received a significant boost following the donation of ultrasound machines to Matayos Level IV and Angurai hospitals by Rainbow 4 Afrika UK.
The ultrasound machines, each valued at Sh1.2 million, bring the total number of hospitals benefiting from this donation to four, with Sio Port and Nangina Mission Hospitals already receiving similar support.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Matayos Level Four hospital, Busia County Deputy Governor Arthur Odera expressed his gratitude, saying the machines will play a vital role in saving the lives of mothers and children during childbirth.
The Deputy Governor also spoke of an X-ray machine purchased in 2022, that will begin operating in July after construction of a dedicated room for the equipment is completed.

“We have an X-Ray machine that was purchased in 2022 but we had not prepared a place for the machine. Right now, the contractor is working on the X-Ray room and by July the X-Ray services will be available here at Matayos Sub County Hospital,” he said
Dr. Frank Wanyama, representing Rainbow 4 Afrika UK Kenya, emphasized the organization’s commitment to strengthening the local healthcare system.
"Our goal is to protect lives, which is why we are bringing these ultrasound machines to ensure that mothers can give birth safely and to healthy children," he said, adding that improved maternal health services would also help generate revenue for further development of health facilities in the region.
