The assailants escaped with the officers' firearm.

Unidentified assailants attacked and killed a police officer who was escorting Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in Alego Usonga, Siaya County.

The officer was in the company of a colleague and an exam center manager escorting the exam papers to Mahero Secondary School.

In the scuffle, his colleague also got injured and is recuperating at the Siaya Teaching and Referral Hospital.

"The thugs escaped with the officer's firearms; AK47 and MP5. Officers are investigating the crime," read a police report.

According to the report filed at Siaya Police Station, the incident happened on Monday, November 20, as the officers and the center manager walked to School.

"The Center Manager ran for his safety while the other officers struggled with the suspected thugs. Sadly, one office died on the spot," the report added.

The suspects managed to escape on foot and are still at large.
