KRA collection crosses a trillion mark a week earlier compared to 2023

The Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) collection has crossed a trillion shillings’ mark in five months as of November 30, 2024. The tax man collected Sh1. 005 trillion in the period between July and November.  

This is a week earlier compared to last year when the Authority achieved the same threshold on December 7 when its collections clocked Sh1.009 trillion.

In a statement by Commissioner, Strategy, Innovation and Risk Management on Monday morning, KRA says the increase in its collection has been largely driven by growth in customs.

“Notably, revenue collected in the last 5 months (July - November 2024/25) amounting to Kshs 1,005.183 Billion reflects a growth of 4.3% compared to Kshs 963.746 Billion collected in the same period last financial year,”

“in a remarkable achievement, Customs continues to record an above Kshs 70 Billion-mark monthly collection in the last 4 months (August - November 2024/25). Thus, cumulatively (July – November 2024) Customs revenue collections amounted to Kshs 359.571 Billion, a growth of 5.9% over Kshs 339.678 Billion realized in the same period of FY 2023/24,”

Other economic indicators that directly drove the revenue collection were low domestic demand which signifies a contraction in the economic activities and growth in domestic taxes.
