President William Ruto has received a shortlist of candidates for Principal Secretary (PS) positions, signalling a potential shake-up in government appointments.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) submitted the names a week after concluding interviews held on January 31, according to an inside source.

The process, which saw more than 2,500 Kenyans apply, significantly contrasts with the 9,000 applications received in 2022.

The PSC has narrowed the list to 109 candidates, from whom new PSs may be selected.

The future of the 51 PSs Ruto appointed in November 2022 remains uncertain  as the president considers changes.

Sources familiar with the matter said the President is expected to drop PSs who were aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Some of Gachagua’s allies have already lost key government positions following his impeachment.

However, it remains unclear when Ruto will make the final appointments or if additional changes will follow.

Observers note that the move could redefine the composition of Ruto’s inner circle and shape the policy direction of his administration in the coming months.
