Umoja Summit Party opens doors for the youth, says SG Muluka

Umoja Summit Party (USP) has opened its doors to the young people interested in elective positions in the upcoming 2027 General Elections. 

USP Secretary General Barack Muluka said the party has shifted its focus onboard the young people in the party and addressing the plight of the electorates.

The party had fronted Walter Mongare Nyambane for presidency in 2022 General Election but he did not make it to the ballot for failing to meet the academic requirements. 

"It is a roadmap to 2027 General Election. This is in a bid to realign the party to the vision of the young people who are the future of this country," he said.

He was speaking on Wednesday in Nairobi ahead of the party's rebranding on Thursday 3.

Muluka said the National Delegates Conference (NDC) will ratify the positions that are still held on interim and give full mandate and power for the office holders to execute the party's plans into the future. 

"There are positions being held on interim. From Thursday, the meeting will endorse the positions and gazette them officially," said Muluka. 

The party will now join the list of other political outfits that has rebranded in the recent past in a bid to woo the public to buy their ideologies in the wake of the Generation Z evolution. 

USP party leader Godfrey Kanoti said they are banking on the youth to form a formidable force that will challenge the ruling, United Democratic Alliance Party for presidency alongside other political seats. 

"We give the youth that space to join a party where their voices will be heard. We expect many people to declare interest tomorrow,'' he said, noting that the party will address the issues of governance deficit affecting the country. 

"We are tired of a dormant cabinet, a yes cabinet. This is a one man leadership," he alleged about Kenya Kwanza's administration. 

Naomi Cidi, founder of USP, said "Kenya needs honest leaders that people can trust," even as they urged the youth to join them. 

"We are changing the name to reflect the youth. We are daring them to come to USP, which is going to be unveiled tomorrow," she said.
