The Ministry of Education has pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of the events surrounding the aborted staging of the play Echoes of War by Butere Girls High School.
Speaking on the matter, Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok confirmed that the ministry will also re-examine the rules and regulations governing the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival (KNDFF).
The review aims to ensure stricter compliance and prevent similar incidents in the future.
PS Bitok reiterated Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba’s earlier remarks, emphasizing that Section 9.0 Note C of the KNDFF guidelines prohibits participation by non-teaching staff, unregistered teachers, or individuals outside registered educational institutions.
He also clarified that no disciplinary action has been taken against the principal of Butere Girls or the school's Board of Management, noting that any such measures will depend on the findings of ongoing investigations.
Despite concerns raised by some participants, Bitok maintained that the national drama festivals are proceeding as planned and have not been affected by boycotts or disruptions.
