Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly Joel Munuve is dead.
Munuve, who was elected on an independent ticket, died on Tuesday, April 22, while at a hospital in Kiambu.
It is reported that Munuve complained of some pain while heading to the city center, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Nairobi County Speaker Kennedy Ngondi, who announced Munuve’s demise, said the death was a big blow not only to the Assembly but to the county.
“He suddenly collapsed and passed away this morning. He was a dedicated leader and tireless servant of the people. His relentless commitment to the people of Kariobangi North and greater public service will be remembered with great respect and admiration," said the Speaker.
Adding that, "We mourn not only the loss of the colleague but also the brother whose presence enriched the institution and uplifted many."
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, echoing similar remarks, described Munuve as a close friend, adding that it is still unclear how he died at the facility.
“From the Assembly, we are still giving the family time to come to terms with the demise so that we can address this later,” Alai said.
Munuve was among the vocal MCAs in the Assembly who have been challenging the county government over some projects.
In one of the latest statements, the deceased challenged the formation of a private firm to collect garbage in the county, citing unfair deals and adding that it could be a scam in the making.
