Residents of Mogotio in Baringo County are demanding justice for a driver who was killed in a banditry attack along the Marigat-Loruk road on Monday.

Philip Kipchirchir, was part of a convoy that was attacked by bandits while they were being escorted by security officers to Nginyany market to purchase livestock.

The angry residents blocked the Emmining-Marigat road for the better part of yesterday morning.

They demanded that their area Member of Parliament, Reuben Kiborek, and his North Baringo counterpart, Joseph Koros, to address their concerns.

Nickson Kipkemboi, a driver from Mogotio, expressed that the incident has left them devastated.

He highlighted that drivers are often contracted by businessmen to transport goods, but instead, they become victims of violence.

Wilson Kipkoech, another driver on the Mogotio-Marigat route, voiced his frustrations over the insecurity faced by drivers, who are often left vulnerable to attacks without justice.

He criticized local leadership for failing to identify and condemn criminals, stating, “We are peaceful people, we don’t want trouble; we only want the killer of Kipchirchir brought to justice, either alive or dead.”

He emphasized that full disarmament would help reduce banditry and robbery in the region.

Evans Kipsang, a driver with 22 years of experience, expressed concerns about feeling exposed and fearing imminent attacks.

He believes that the driver was specifically targeted in this tragic incident.

Kipsang advised that drivers should invest in and secure insurance to protect their families in case of death or other calamities.

Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Songolo confirmed that two traders were killed near Kipcherere while attempting to purchase livestock.

Songolo called on leaders to support the restoration of peace, emphasizing that escalating tensions could negatively impact local businesses.
