Derrick Troy Rusana has been elected as the new President of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) following a hotly contested election.
Rusana emerged victorious after securing 26 votes against his closest rival, Topnotch Otae, who garnered 13 votes. He will serve a one-year term, during which he has pledged to bring significant reforms to student leadership.
Outlining his vision, Rusana promised to champion greater resource mobilization for faculties, including establishing partnerships aimed at enhancing research funding through the Students Council.
"Mine is a fresh vision for the institution. We intend to mobilize more resources for faculties to achieve more within our faculties. This will be done by ensuring each faculty secures at least two partners," Rusana stated.
He also announced plans to introduce a Culture Week, an event designed to celebrate and promote the diverse communities within the University of Nairobi.
"I promise a new chapter of dynamic, inclusive, and impactful student governance," he added.
Rusana, who is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, is also the son of the current Speaker of the Migori County Assembly.
