First Assurance Kenya has kicked off a new chapter in Western Kenya, unveiling a new relocated branch in the vibrant city of Kisumu.
The move comes as the company celebrates an incredible 95 years in the insurance world, proving it’s still young at heart and ready to grow.
Now settled into the bustling Al-Imran Plaza right in Kisumu’s city centre, the branch opened its doors on Friday as it seeks to expand its operations in the region.
Company leaders, local partners, and Kisumu County officials gathered to mark the occasion, bringing a sense of excitement and shared purpose to the event.
“This is a big moment for us,” said Stephen Lokonyo, the company’s Managing Director, with a smile. “We have been part of Kisumu since 2017, and moving to this central spot shows we’re serious about being right where our customers need us. As we hit 95 years, we’re not slowing down. We’re looking ahead, growing, and finding new ways to support communities and businesses.”
The Kisumu branch is a key piece of First Assurance’s “First Things First” mission, which is all about making life easier for customers.
At the opening, George Omondi Okong’o, Kisumu County’s Finance and Economic Planning Executive, praised First Assurance’s impact.
“We are thrilled to see businesses like First Assurance putting down roots in Kisumu,” he said.
“This move is a win for our local economy. Our county is wide open for business, with exciting opportunities in agriculture, port development, and more. We are ready to work with companies like First Assurance to make things happen.”
First Assurance has a rich history. Starting in 1930 as a branch of the British firm Prudential, it became fully Kenyan-owned in the 1990s and joined the Absa Group family in 2015.
Today, it is a powerhouse in general insurance, covering everything from health and motor to asset protection across Kenya.
Jonas Kitaka, the Chief Operating Officer, was quick to highlight the company’s modern edge.
“Our 24/7 customer support is always there, especially when emergencies strike. We might be 95, but we’re nimble, tech-savvy, and ready to keep things fresh.”
First Assurance will be wrapping up the weekend with a golf tournament at Nyanza Golf Club on Saturday. It’s a chance to toast their journey and build stronger ties with the community.
