A major facelift of Sotik Town is in the offing after Bomet County established a team to lead the transformation of one of the first growing centres in the area.
In the plan, kiosks built in unsuitable locations will be demolished and investors ordered to paint their property in the town, according to the county government.
In an election held on Tuesday, overseen by the CECM for Lands, Joseph Kirui and his Chief Officer, Issah Yarrow, Kirui emphasised that the board faces a significant task ahead, and residents are eager to see immediate changes in the town.
“Sotik is a rapidly growing town, and the board must act swiftly to begin fulfilling their responsibilities, as locals are anticipating improvements soon,” said Kirui.
He also mentioned that some structures in the town would need to be demolished to allow for proper planning, and he urged residents to cooperate.
“Kiosks built in unsuitable locations will be removed, and those who have not painted their buildings since their construction must prepare to do so,” he added.
Yarrow encouraged the board to collaborate closely with the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), especially the Planning Committee.
“The burden on their shoulders is substantial, and expectations are high. What people want are prompt changes in Sotik town,” stated Yarrow.
Members of the County Assembly Nathan Kirui (Kapletundo Ward) and Roseline Cheptoo (Rongena/Manaret Ward) praised the initiative and pledged their full support to the incoming board as it begins its mission to enhance municipal governance and service delivery in Sotik.
During the election, Kennedy Sigei was elected as chairperson, while Nelly Sigei was appointed as vice chairperson. Other members elected to lead various sub-committees include Moses Cheruiyot (Chair, Technical & Strategy Committee), Ruth Munyao (Chair, Human Resource & Administration Committee), Gideon Mutai (Chair, Audit & Risk Committee), and Christopher Mutai (Chair, Finance & General Purpose Committee).
