Governor Ochilo Ayacko has challenged President William Ruto to prioritise development in the county, saying they are doing their best to create a conducive environment for service delivery.
While referring to Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga’s remarks on ODM’s support to President Ruto, the governor said it will be easier for President Ruto’s administration to market itself if it makes service delivery continuous.
“We encourage the president and his team to prioritise development in Migori County,” Governor Ayacko said while addressing the Press at his office on Wednesday.
Three days ago, the senator said Ruto’s development record would determine whether he gets ODM’s backing in the 2027 General Election.
Ayacko acknowledged that the Head of State’s visit to the county a week ago had started bearing fruit.
“We were able to make presentations to the president, and some of the promises he made are seeing the light of day,” he said.
The projects include the construction of a modern stadium in Migori, expansion of Lichota Airstrip, modern markets, roads and piers in Muhuru and Sori beaches.
Already, advertisement for the construction of Migori Stadium has been made while evaluation of Lichota airstrip is underway.
Lichota airstrip has a runway of 1.2 kilometres, which needs to be expanded to 2 kilometers to allow bigger aircraft to land.
Ayacko, who encouraged counties to take advantage of the broad-based government, thanked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for ensuring an end to divisive politics.
“For strategic reasons, we look for partnerships, and I am now happy to report that the advertisement for the construction of the stadium has been published. Working in partnership with the national government is envisaged in the constitution,” he said.
The governor promised to work with other leaders in matters development and politics.
“We will be working together,” he said.
